ABB expands NVIDIA partnership for AI data center infrastructure while planning to divest robotics unit to SoftBank Group

ABB and NVIDIA are integrating advanced AI infrastructure into data centers through digital twins and coordinated power and automation systems. ABB is also planning to divest ABB Robotics to SoftBank Group, with closing described as imminent.

ABB is converting its switchgear, UPS units and DC power platforms into "SimReady" 3D models compatible with NVIDIA's Omniverse DSX design tools, positioning its products to be specified early in the design process for large AI campuses with racks drawing over one megawatt each.

The sale of ABB Robotics would streamline ABB around electrification, motion and process automation, while shifting collaborative robots and factory automation hardware to an owner with AI and computing focus. Investors must assess whether a more focused ABB with closer ties to AI data centers justifies the loss of direct robotics exposure.
