Japan HP debuts HP ZBook Ultra G3a 16 inch at 639,100 yen

3 Key Points

  1. What happened

Japan HP announced and began selling the HP ZBook Ultra G3a 16 inch on October 7, 2026, from 639,100 yen including tax, with an AMD Ryzen AI MAX PRO 400 series chip and up to 192GB of memory.

  2. Why it matters

The workstation is built for professional work such as CAD/CAE and visualization and for running AI models on the device rather than in the cloud, which can reduce cloud dependence and inference costs.

WHO IT HITSThis lands on engineers and designers who run CAD/CAE, visualization, and analysis work on a portable machine, as well as on IT departments that manage and service those machines.

Context & Analysis

The HP ZBook Ultra G3a 16 inch follows HP's earlier 14-inch model, the HP ZBook Ultra G1a, whose maximum TDP was 55W. The new model raises that to a maximum of 100W and introduces a new cooling design called Dynamic Max Airflow. That design places two fans toward the center, raises the pressure of the intake air, and sends it to the heat sink and cooling unit at the back. A new hinge design helps secure airflow, paired with a large vapor chamber that spreads heat widely, and HP says the result lowers temperatures by about 4 to 6 degrees Celsius compared with the previous model.

The machine also carries a 96Wh battery for use away from the office, and its AC adapters use GaN (gallium nitride) to combine high output with a smaller size. Models with the Ryzen AI Max PRO 485 come with a 140W adapter, while those with the Ryzen AI Max PRO 490 and Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 include a 180W adapter. The 140W adapter is a wall-mount type that plugs directly into an outlet, and the 180W adapter connects to an outlet by a power cable.

HP is pairing the hardware with support for using AI in professional work through a three-way effort by HP, Autodesk, and Perplexity. The HP ZBook Ultra G3a 16 inch bundles a one-month free trial of the AI tool Perplexity along with 5,000 credits. For example, combining the BIM software Autodesk Revit with Perplexity allows architectural and civil engineering design work to search for needed parts within design data and output data using natural language. Tomoyuki Nakayama of HP Japan said that while AI used to give the impression of being hard to see where it was used, concrete use cases have been established in the engineering field as HP worked with AMD since the previous HP ZBook Ultra G1a.
