Meta unveils Muse Charm AI device and Meta VR Glasses

Meta Connect has traditionally been the venue for the company's VR and smart glasses news, and this year's event leaned heavily on both. The headline hardware is a pair of VR glasses rather than a headset — Meta's own reviewer, who tried them at Meta's campus, described them as a lightweight Vision Pro and compared the 100g weight directly to the Quest 3's 515g. That framing hints at how Meta wants the category to feel less like a committed headset and more like something you can slip on and off.

The camera question hung over the whole show. Meta has been facing scrutiny over how some users covertly record others with its glasses, which have been derided as "pervert glasses." Against that backdrop, Meta launched the Ray-Ban Meta Audio Glasses — smart glasses with Meta AI but no camera — a notable choice given that the rumored camera-free pair was expected to be among the biggest announcements.

Software and services filled out the event. Muse, Meta's recently launched AI agent, is being expanded to the smart glasses, and the VR Glasses will get a movie library — hundreds of titles in the US later this year, and thousands internationally when the glasses launch in spring 2027. Whether the camera-free framing actually cools the privacy backlash is likely the open question, and it may hinge on how buyers respond to glasses that trade a camera for Meta AI.
