Brazilian industrial AI adoption jumped from 16.9% to 41.9% in two years, but 72% of adopting companies remain at beginner or experimental maturity levels.

The IBGE PINTEC Semestral 2024, released in September 2025, found that 41.9% of industrial companies with 100 or more employees were using AI by 2024, up from 16.9% in 2022. The absolute count rose from 1,619 firms to 4,261. Six independent measurements by different methodologies—including studies from Bain and Company, Microsoft, Sebrae, and IBM with Morning Consult—all converged on rapid adoption ahead of the global average.

A Bain survey reported that 72% of Brazilian companies that have adopted AI sit at beginner or experimental levels of maturity. Meanwhile, Gartner found that only 28% of AI use cases fully succeed and meet ROI expectations, 20% fail outright, and 85% of AI project failures are due to poor data quality or absence of relevant data. Secondary analyst sources in 2026 reported the actual post-proof-of-concept abandonment rate above 50%.

ANPD enforcement of the Brazilian Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (data protection law in force since 2020) has been gentle through August 2024—only 18 administrative sanctions applied, zero fines against private companies in 2024—but legal commentary across 2025 converges on the expectation that the next two years will see the first serious financial sanctions against private Brazilian companies, creating exposure for firms running AI on data warehouses they cannot fully audit.
