At Fortune's Cyber 60 event, Armadin cofounder Evan Peña said attackers using AI can scan a Fortune 500's more than 10,000 externally facing systems within hours, work he said would have taken a year.
Why it matters
If a single attacker can cover that many systems in hours, security teams face a volume and pace of probing that manual defenses were not built for, Peña's account suggests.

Peña's warning came at an event that was itself about the startups trying to keep pace with attackers. The Cyber 60 list, released at the New York Stock Exchange event, names companies including open source security firm Chainguard and AI security company Irregular, and the gathering's message was that AI has become the attacker's best tool. Peña pointed to a cluster of recent vulnerabilities — Citrix, BeyondTrust, PHP and Node.js — all surfacing within a three- or four-week window, which he called unprecedented emerging threats. Against that backdrop, the speed advantage he described is the crux: work that once took a year of human effort can now be done in hours, putting the burden on defenders to match a tempo they were not built for.
