Google announces Gemini Intelligence, bundling new AI features for Android phones including task automation with multimodal support and generative widgets

Google is introducing Gemini Intelligence, a collection of existing and new Gemini features reserved for premium Android devices like the Galaxy S26 series, during its pre-I/O Android showcase.

Task automation will expand from rideshare and food delivery apps to a wider range of apps 'soon,' and will now support multimodal inputs—screenshots and photos alongside voice or text—allowing users to give Gemini a photo of a grocery list to add items to their cart.

Create My Widget, a new feature under Gemini Intelligence, lets users describe functionality in natural language to generate custom widgets (e.g., a weather widget showing wind speed for cyclists); these widgets will also work on Wear OS watches.

Gemini Intelligence features will roll out in waves throughout the year starting this summer on Galaxy and Pixel phones; Chrome on Android will gain a Gemini button for webpage sharing and questioning, with auto browse for subscribers to Google's AI Pro or Ultra plans rolling out in late June.
