TripleTen survey data shows 48% of finance workers were asked to use AI chatbots and 32% to automate workflows, versus 18% in healthcare and 25% in education.
Why it matters
The gap looks less like sectors falling behind and more like different absorption speeds, so non-tech workers may get a window to build skills before they become standard, TripleTen suggests.

TripleTen's survey data places tech at the front of a diffusion curve rather than on a separate island, with finance the clearest second at 48% of workers asked to use AI chatbots. The lower figures for healthcare (18%) and education (25%) reflect broad categories that mix hands-on clinical or instructional staff with back-office administrators, and compliance-heavy or human-facing operations move more deliberately. Across all surveyed industries, 79% of workers report being asked to learn at least one new skill.
The training numbers mirror that adoption curve. Tech workers average $1,758 in out-of-pocket professional development spending, finance $1,664, healthcare $990 and education $883, and nearly half of healthcare and education workers spent nothing last year. Tech workers are also nearly twice as likely as all workers to use AI chatbots as learning tools (48% vs. 27%).
One skill stands out for its absence: only 30% of managers and owners call judging whether AI output is right or wrong an absolute must, ranking it sixth of seven. Ana Riabova, TripleTen's AI strategy and enablement lead, argues the real gain from early adoption is expanding what workers can do rather than saving time. Workers themselves trust someone currently doing the job most (31%), ahead of official certification (19%), an AI tool (16%) or a university professor (6%).
