Sesame, an AI startup co-founded by Oculus founders, launches its iOS app with conversational AI agents

Sesame released a public preview of its iOS app on Thursday with four AI agents—Maya, Miles, Simone, and Charlie—each with distinct voices, personalities, and memory. The app is available in 39 countries and is free for now, though sign-up may have a short waitlist.

The app uses fast search and retrieval systems that let the AI run multiple parallel searches while speaking, weaving results into responses mid-sentence. New features include search cards with images, notes for capturing takeaways, a texting mode, deep dives for in-depth results, and an incognito mode for private conversations.

Maya and Miles were previously available in Sesame's Research Preview, where they were accessed by over a million people within the first few weeks. The company had raised $250 million in Series B funding from Sequoia and others.

Sesame plans to launch intelligent eyewear in 2027, and hints that the agents will later be able to take action on users' behalf, moving beyond conversation-only functionality.
