Meta taps AI agents to automate WhatsApp Business setup

Meta's move extends its existing lineup of MCP servers beyond ads and app configuration to one specifically for WhatsApp Business. Previously, developers had to move between the Developer Console, Meta's Business Manager, the API reference, and their editor just to get a business onto the platform — a scattered process the new server is meant to replace with a single chat with an AI coding agent.

The announcement lands alongside Meta's news of new AI-focused subscription plans, and the company is joining a broader group of tech firms — including PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, X, Google, and Microsoft — that already offer MCP servers for secure agent interaction with their services. For businesses, the agent can take on not just account creation and phone verification but also messaging template creation and editing, message and webhook testing, and monitoring of failures such as Terms of Service, payment method, and Business Verification issues.
