Anthropic announced Claude Duet, a research preview app on iOS, Android and the web, built on Claude Opus 5.5 and limited to Pro and Max subscribers in the US via a waitlist.
Why it matters
Unlike standard Claude, which replies to prompts, Claude Duet collects information and sends messages unprompted — though Anthropic says it can still misjudge what is urgent.
WHO IT HITSUS subscribers on Anthropic's Pro and Max plans get first access, and knowledge workers who want AI to draft emails, dashboards and LinkedIn job posts without being asked are the target users.

Claude Duet sits apart from the usual assistant pattern: instead of waiting for a question, it can go out, gather information and send the user a message, and it can also produce dashboards and draft emails. Because it plugs into connectors and plugins listed in Claude Marketplace, the examples Anthropic gives are concrete office chores — finding missed Gmail or Slack messages and prompting a reply, drafting a job ad and posting it to LinkedIn, or creating product-launch assets in Canva.
The app is available on iOS, Android and the web, and signing in with a Claude account carries over memory, skills and already-connected apps, so existing setup is not lost. Emails it writes wait for the user's send permission and can be edited first, which keeps a human check on outbound messages.
For now the release is a research preview limited to US Pro and Max subscribers through a waitlist. Anthropic itself notes the app can still misjudge what is urgent and says it will keep tuning it based on what early users report, so the current version is best read as a test of how much initiative users will accept from an agent.
