Anthropic released a research preview of Claude Duet, an always-on agent built on Claude Opus 5.5, first for U.S. Pro ($20) and Max (from $100) users via iOS, Android and claude.ai, with a waitlist now open.
Why it matters
The agent targets professionals and small-business owners overwhelmed by tasks, monitoring connected apps every few hours and pausing for approval before payments, signatures or data deletion — though it can misread conversations or urgency in this early version.
WHO IT HITSSmall-business owners and busy professionals who already pay for Claude Pro or Max are the first target users, while teams relying on tools like Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks and Stripe may see routine follow-ups and invoice chasing delegated to the agent.

Claude Duet arrives as several AI services push toward always-on agents, with Anthropic framing its version around the workloads of professionals and small-business owners who cannot keep up with everything on their plate. The company says setup is light because memory, skills and connected apps carry over from Claude, so the change users notice is mainly how they work with the assistant rather than what they configure.
The design draws a deliberate line around autonomy. Decisions remain with the user: Claude Duet prepares drafts and groundwork, but sending a message, executing a payment, signing a document or deleting data surfaces the exact task and waits for approval. Some operations, such as securities trading or moving funds between accounts, are blocked even with approval, and a dedicated classifier and safety prompts guard against leaking sensitive information like credit card numbers or ID documents.
Anthropic is also candid that this is an early build. It may misinterpret the flow of a conversation or misjudge urgency, personal errands like booking tickets are not yet well handled, and the browser view is unavailable for now. Duet runs as a separate app from the main Claude app, with integration between the two to be improved based on feedback during the preview.
