What happened
NEC said on October 5 it will open a European base for its AI-driven CyIOC cybersecurity service in April 2027, then link Japan, Europe and the US under a Follow the Sun setup in July 2027.
Why it matters
The three-region setup appears meant to give clients around-the-clock monitoring that also covers overseas offices and group firms—something firms running global operations may find hard to build alone.
What to watch
The plan hinges on whether the shared platform and operating standards work across regions; watch the October launch of ACD Act support for regulatory reporting duties.
WHO IT HITSGlobal IT and security teams at companies with overseas offices or group firms would gain a single view of group-wide security under one platform, if the Follow the Sun plan is delivered as announced.

NEC positions CyIOC as a service for companies that run operations both in Japan and overseas. The service fuses NEC's own intelligence with AI technology, and it covers a wide arc: catching early signs of a cyberattack, defending against it, responding, and analyzing and sharing global risk.
The new plan extends that service's operating footprint rather than its feature list. A European base of the Cyber Intelligence & Operation Center, described as the command center for "protecting .JP" and benchmarked against advanced security standards, is due in April 2027. Three months later, in July 2027, NEC intends to connect Japan, Europe and the US in a Follow the Sun arrangement, where each base works the local business hours while sharing one platform and one set of operating standards.
Two items suggest the timing is tied to regulation as much as to technology. NEC is offering support for mandatory reporting to authorities ahead of the October enforcement of the ACD Act (the law strengthening cyber-response capability), and it is also working to meet regional data-storage requirements. Whether the Follow the Sun model delivers on its promise of one group-wide view is likely to depend on how smoothly those regional data rules and shared standards mesh—a test for NEC's global customers more than a settled outcome.
