Grimes joins AI film Gods Don't Give Gifts, in theaters December 4th

Gods Don't Give Gifts is being positioned by its producer, AI studio Fable, as "the first AI film to come to theatres," and the addition of Grimes gives the project a recognizable name to put in front of audiences. Fable argues that casting an actor's likeness together with their spoken vocal performance will become more common in animated films made with AI, a claim that will be measured against the film's December 4th release.

The film's premise — a future where bodies are disposable and consciousness has been commoditized, told through four interconnected stories — lines up with themes Grimes has explored before, including transhumanism and artificial intelligence. She is also working on an AI-themed album called Psy Opera, so her involvement here is not a one-off.

Until now, AI in Hollywood has generated hype without a project demonstrating the technology as a vital storytelling tool; earlier attempts, such as two takes on The Odyssey including one made with Elon Musk's Grok, drew poor reception. Whether this release changes that perception is the open question the December 4th date will begin to answer.
