Basecamp Research raises $140m to scale AI therapy push

Basecamp Research's latest raise comes as it works to pair its EDEN biological foundation models with large serine recombinases, which can integrate DNA sequences into the genome. The company's models are trained on its Trillion Gene Atlas, a genomic dataset built through partnerships in more than 30 countries. That dataset and the DNA-writing methods are the technical foundation behind its push into AI-designed therapies.

The company is also building commercial ties to back the science. It has named former Biogen executive Richard Pearce as chief business officer and will add S32 general partner and former Google Verily CEO Andy Conrad to its board. Current cell therapies, Basecamp says, are constrained by complexity and manufacturing costs that can reach hundreds of thousands of dollars per patient, the gap its in vivo approach aims to address.

Whether the funding translates into clinical progress will likely hinge on how quickly Basecamp's AI-designed therapies move through development and how well its pharmaceutical partnerships expand. For patients with few alternatives, that timeline is the one that matters most.
