Amazon explores selling custom AI chips to outside customers

What happened

Amazon is exploring the possibility of selling its custom Trainium and Inferentia processors to third parties beyond AWS, according to Bloomberg. The company's internal chip business already generates revenue approaching $50 billion（約8兆円） on an annualized basis, making it larger than AMD's entire data center revenue of ~$16.6 billion（約2.7兆円）.

Why it matters

Amazon has a distribution advantage Nvidia lacks—direct relationships with millions of cloud customers already inside AWS, which holds roughly 28% of the global cloud infrastructure market. Rather than convincing customers to buy standalone hardware, Amazon can bundle AI chips with cloud services, storage, networking, and software into a single package. For customers focused on lowering AI costs, this integrated offering could become an attractive alternative to Nvidia-powered solutions.

What to watch

AWS generated $128.7 billion（約21兆円） in revenue last year and the company produced more than $139 billion（約22兆円） in operating cash flow in 2025. Those resources allow Amazon to refine products at scale and fund future development.
