OpenAI says ChatGPT's Chrome extension can now view your open browser tabs when you tag Chrome, and ChatGPT Work can control tabs for tasks like sending messages or filling out forms.
Why it matters
Tagging Chrome lets ChatGPT pull details from pages already open, so it can fill registration forms, build vendor comparison sheets, or draft emails without the user copying text across tabs.
WHO IT HITSChrome users who install the extension and tag the browser can hand multi-tab chores — comparing vendors, filling forms, drafting emails — to ChatGPT instead of switching tabs themselves.

OpenAI's ChatGPT Atlas browser is gone, but the company is keeping the browser-tab capability alive through its Google Chrome extension. The upgrade lets ChatGPT see the tabs a user already has open once Chrome is tagged in ChatGPT's web or desktop app, a step OpenAI demonstrated with a video of someone asking ChatGPT to compare three open tabs of sofas.
The add-on is pitched for everyday paperwork: OpenAI's sample queries include filling out a registration form from an event brief and stopping before submitting, moving vendors from open tabs into a comparison sheet with pricing and source links, comparing contractor services and drafting an email to the best fit for a home renovation, and filling out a dentist form while adding the appointment to work and personal calendars.
The sidebar is also updated, giving users the full power of ChatGPT and their entire conversation history in Chat or Work without leaving the page they are viewing. ChatGPT Work can control Chrome tabs for tasks like sending messages, filling out forms, or downloading files, and can organize or group open tabs.
