
TotalEnergies has launched the Pangea 5 supercomputer in partnership with Dell Technologies and NVIDIA, designed to increase subsurface imaging capacity and AI workloads for hydrocarbon exploration and low emission energy projects. The project represents more than €100 million of investment.
Pangea 5 multiplies computing power by six while cutting energy use at equal performance by about 40%, and includes energy efficiency upgrades and waste heat recovery to support facility heating.
The supercomputer is expected to influence how TotalEnergies allocates capital across exploration, low emission energy and efficiency projects as AI-driven analysis becomes more embedded in operations, including applications in seismic imaging, renewable project design and emissions management.
