Cursor builds own AI model, launches Origin Git platform

What happened

Cursor announced three products. First, it is training its own AI model from scratch (no open-source base), expected to ship within the next few weeks, on par with Opus and GPT in size, and uses ten to twenty times more compute than previous Cursor models. Second, Origin—a new Git platform built on cloud providers—is designed for both humans and AI agents, resolves merge conflicts, and fixes failed CI tests; it is already running internally and with select partners, with broad availability planned for fall. Third, Cursor Mobile launches as an iOS beta, letting users manage agents remotely and review agent-generated screenshots.

Why it matters

Cursor is moving from relying on third-party AI models to building its own, which gives the startup direct control over the model's capabilities and direction. The Git platform addresses a practical gap—AI agents that can read from and write to code repositories need infrastructure designed for that; the team tested it by simulating thousands of agents working on a single repository at the same time.
