Google upgrades NotebookLM with Gemini 3.5 model, adds cloud computing and web search for research

Google rolled out updates to NotebookLM, its AI-powered note-taking app, which now uses Gemini 3.5 model. Users can start a research project by asking NotebookLM questions about a topic, and the app will use Google Search to help find relevant sources.

NotebookLM now runs on Antigravity, Google's agentic coding platform (an AI system that can make decisions and execute tasks). Each notebook is connected to a secure cloud computer, allowing NotebookLM to write and run code. The app can output information in new formats including PDF documents, data visualizations (PNG, SVG), Excel and PowerPoint files, CSV sheets, and images (PNG, JPG, GIF).

The update is coming to users on Google's AI Ultra plan and Workspace customers, with plans to expand to more plans in the future.
