Jaeger releases v2 with OpenTelemetry built-in, adds AI agent collaboration tools to debug autonomous systems

Jaeger v2 replaced its original data collection system with OpenTelemetry Collector framework, consolidating metrics, logs, and traces into one deployment model. This eliminates intermediate translation steps, so trace data ingests faster with fewer handoffs.

The project adopted three protocols (Model Context Protocol, Agent Client Protocol, and Agent–User Interaction Protocol) to let engineers prompt an AI assistant in the UI with natural language—like 'find 500-level errors in payment service with >2 second latency'—and have it automatically translate those requests into trace queries instead of manually clicking filters.

DevOps and SRE teams can now run the exact same Jaeger v2 binary locally (with a small language model for privacy) and in production (with a larger cloud AI model for complex analysis), eliminating config drift between development and incident response. This means your local testing setup matches production, reducing surprises during outages.
