What happened
Across 89 Japanese-language sites run by Mugenkaitaku, ChatGPT-User visits rose from 589 in the week of Sept 30–Oct 6, 2026 to 3,309 in Oct 18–24 — a 5.6× gain that far outpaced Googlebot's 2.9×.
Why it matters
Pages are increasingly being read because an AI user asked a question, not only because of classic search rankings, so how a site answers a single question may shape whether it gets read at all.
WHO IT HITSMarketing and SEO teams running content sites may need to check server logs for ChatGPT-User and review robots.txt to ensure OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User are not disallowed, since being blocked reduces the chance a page is read in ChatGPT answers.

The measurement comes from Mugenkaitaku, which runs an autonomous marketing SaaS called Hottarakashi Shukyaku and aggregated logs from 89 mostly Japanese-language sites it operates — about 3,569 articles as of Oct 25, 2026. Over the 26 days from Sept 29 to Oct 24, robots visited those sites 6,571,856 times. AI and assistant companies — Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Perplexity and ByteDance — accounted for 3,476,922 of those visits, or 52.9%, roughly 9.2× Googlebot's 379,927.
The pattern of visits differed by robot. Anthropic's ClaudeBot arrived 544,501 times on Oct 5 alone, then stayed low on following days, which the company describes as a tendency for AI training robots to arrive in concentrated bursts. The number of sites ChatGPT-User visited per day also rose from an average of 15.3 to 34.1 out of the 89.
The company cautions that the sample is limited in number and type of sites, so the same result may not hold elsewhere, and that robots which misreport or omit their User-Agent cannot be separated and are grouped as 'other.' Its representative, Koichi Ueno, said many companies still do not measure how they are read in AI search, and framed the data as a sign that customer entry points are spreading beyond search results into conversations with AI.
