Google signs deal with U.S. Department of Defense to provide AI models for classified work

Alphabet's Google has agreed with the U.S. Department of Defense to allow its AI models to be used for classified work, joining OpenAI and xAI in supplying AI for government use.

The agreement permits the Pentagon to use Google's AI for 'any lawful government purpose', including work on classified networks that handle sensitive tasks such as mission planning and weapons targeting.

The arrangement requires Google to adjust its AI safety settings and filters at the government's request, according to The Information.
