P-1 AI raises $50M Series A for Archie, an AI engineer for hardware design

P-1 AI, a San Mateo–based startup, announced the initial closing of its Series A financing on July 29, 2026, raising $50 million（約80億円） led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). The round follows a $23 million（約37億円） seed round from Radical Ventures completed in 2025.

The capital will fund the deployment of Archie, the company's core product: an AI engineer built for hardware engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, thermal, fluids, and systems design. Archie is designed to serve data center, automotive, and aerospace & defense customers. According to the announcement, Archie operates at the level of a junior mechanical and electrical engineer, equipped with quantitative intuition over product design space and the ability to use complex engineering tools—the same tools human engineers use. The company built Archie to maximize anthropomorphism so it fits seamlessly into existing engineering teams and workflows. Co-founder and CEO Paul Eremenko stated that the capital will enable the company to grow its team and "10X the compute for training custom models to meet customer needs." He emphasized that "interest in Archie from major industrial firms—employers of most of the world's engineers—has been extraordinary and emphasizes the need to scale our product and deployment teams."

Archie promises to deliver the "10x engineer" benefit to the physical world, giving teams AI teammates to expand bandwidth, instantly flex capacity, reduce dependence on offshoring, and speed execution from requirements through delivery. Immelt, speaking about the investment, noted that "Paul's approach is distinctive: bringing advanced AI capability into the workflow of engineering and industrial teams in an engineer-native form factor. That matters. By fitting naturally into how engineers collaborate, P-1 AI can shorten cycle times, improve competitiveness, and deliver measurable results in mission-critical environments."

The board of directors now includes co-founder Paul Eremenko (former Airbus CTO), NEA venture partner Jeff Immelt (former General Electric chairman & CEO), and Molly Welch, a Radical Ventures partner previously of Google Brain. Lila Tretikov, NEA partner and head of AI strategy (previously Microsoft's deputy CTO), joined as a board observer. Recent angel investors added to the cap table include Cameron McCord from Nominal and Nick Marwell and Jo Zhu Kennedy from Anthropic, joining existing angels from Google (Jeff Dean), OpenAI (Peter Welinder), and Weaviate (Bob van Luijt).
