aiClean, a Rust CLI released at v0.1.2, moves old Claude Code and Codex conversations to the OS trash. It judges age by the last real message, not file dates.
Why it matters
Users pruning local AI coding logs by folder date could wipe recently resumed chats. aiClean skips ambiguous, in-progress, or unverifiable conversations and is read-only until a run.

aiClean targets a specific hazard in local AI coding workflows: conversations can be resumed long after their files were last touched, so pruning by folder date risks deleting active threads. The tool instead inspects the last real message, counting user submissions and completed assistant responses, and refuses to decide when dates are unknown or a conversation has unfinished work, an active goal, or child-session relationships.
Safety is built around the OS trash rather than permanent deletion. aiClean verifies that the OS is set to auto-delete trash after 30 days before proceeding, checks Finder settings on macOS and Storage Sense policy on Windows, and will not change OS settings itself. It also declines to run when the apps using Claude Code or Codex are open, and it never force-quits them.
The release notes are candid about limits. On the Windows test machine, Storage Sense cleanup conditions were unverified, so real-data cleanup was not performed there. Intel Mac builds exist but Rosetta execution is untested. Both macOS and Windows binaries lack notarization or Authenticode signing, so some security policies may prompt at runtime. Space may not free up immediately because trashed data still occupies disk, and the SQLite row deletion does not guarantee file shrinkage.
