The Motley Fool named six stocks — Bloom Energy, Plug Power, Eaton, Vertiv, GE Vernova, and NextEra Energy — as potential AI-power beneficiaries. The International Energy Agency predicts AI power demand will double between 2024 and 2030, hitting 945 terawatt-hours.

The pushback against AI's massive electricity consumption has led to an effort to force data centers to "bring their own power." Hydrogen fuel cells, like those made by Bloom Energy, offer a quick solution because they are factory-built and can sit next to data centers. Bloom Energy's fuel cell demand jumped 140% year over year to $6 billion at the start of 2026, and the backlog is likely higher now, pushing the company into the green after years of losses. Plug Power is a more speculative hydrogen play, building an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem.
For data center construction, industrial companies Eaton and Vertiv are already seeing benefits. Eaton estimated AI data centers would be its largest end market this year at 21% of sales, and its North American backlog hit record levels. Vertiv raised guidance after second-quarter 2026 sales rose 24% year over year with earnings up roughly 60%. Both noted robust pipelines ahead.
Even with "bring your own power," the electric grid faces rising demand. NextEra Energy, one of the world's largest utilities, plans to buy Dominion Energy, seeing the AI opportunity. But new demand requires new production, which is where GE Vernova comes in: it makes electricity-producing turbines and ended the second quarter with a $176 billion backlog, expanding capacity to keep up. AI's impact is broad, offering multiple ways for different investor profiles to play the trend.
