Copilot freelance listings jump 13-fold, to 65 by May 2026

The data comes from the freelance matching service "Freelance Job," which analyzed listings containing "Copilot." Listings grew from 5 in January 2025 to 65 in May 2026, roughly a 13-fold increase. Behind this rise is a shift in what companies want: not just people who use AI tools, but people who can embed them into business processes and systems.

Copilot is widely known as a coding-assistance tool through GitHub Copilot, and the analysis shows that development demand is still substantial. Of 452 Copilot listings, 52% co-occur with "GitHub." At the same time, the content of listings is broadening into areas that support corporate AI adoption, such as rolling out Copilot across Microsoft 365 apps, helping employees use it, managing tenants, building governance, and creating internal AI agents with Copilot Studio. The demand is moving from "a tool for writing code" to "a mechanism that fits into a company's work environment and keeps being used."

For freelance engineers, the skills that may matter most could shift toward business design and governance around AI deployment, alongside technical ability. How durable this trend is likely hinges on whether companies keep investing in embedding AI into daily operations after the initial rollout phase, and on whether listings continue to grow beyond the 65 seen in May 2026.
