What happened
Super Micro Computer reported record first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $19.9 billion, up 298% year-over-year and 79% sequentially. The result exceeded the company’s prior guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion, and CEO Charles Liang called it a record start to fiscal 2027.
Why it matters
The scale of the beat, nearly $20 billion in a single quarter, suggests demand for AI infrastructure remains strong enough to absorb capacity as fast as Super Micro can add it, though the company still depends heavily on a small number of large customers.

Super Micro’s latest quarter reflects how quickly AI infrastructure spending has scaled. The company reported $19.9 billion in revenue, a figure that CFO Mark Long noted is larger than its entire quarterly revenue from a year earlier. That comparison underscores the pace at which large data center deployments are being commissioned, even as management flags supply constraints, data center readiness, and the availability of land, power, and data center shells as the principal limits on broader deployment.
The revenue mix shifted toward AI solutions, which rose to approximately 71% of revenue from 59% in the prior quarter. That shift carries margin implications: non-GAAP gross margin declined sequentially to 12.8% from 17.6%, which Long attributed primarily to a greater share of lower-margin large-scale AI deployments. Management said it expects margins in the second half to be below first-half levels as AI solutions move toward the upper end of its 70% to 80% revenue mix estimate.
Customer concentration remains elevated, with one large data center customer representing 44% of revenue during the quarter, compared with 28% for fiscal 2026 as a whole. Long said the company evaluates customer credit before committing manufacturing capacity and components, frequently requires deposits on large deployments, and has a $1.8 billion receivables purchase facility to manage cash timing and credit exposure. The company also improved its cash conversion cycle to 97 days from 149 days in the previous quarter, and Liang said Super Micro is targeting a production turnaround time of 50 days in coming quarters.
