Claude Cowork adds skill recording from screen video and voice narration

Anthropic has introduced a new capability to Claude Cowork, its desktop AI assistant's workspace section, that allows users to record and automate custom workflows. The "Record a skill" feature works by having users record their screen while they complete a task and provide voice narration describing what they are doing. Claude Cowork then processes this combined input—screen activity, clicks, typing, and voice—and converts it into a reusable skill that is saved for future use.

Once a skill has been recorded, it can be triggered automatically whenever the same task needs to be performed, eliminating the need for users to manually repeat every step. The feature is accessed through the "+" menu in Cowork, making it easy for users to save new skills as they work. The capability is currently available to users on the Pro, Max, and Team subscription plans, positioning it as a premium feature within Claude's desktop offering.

This approach to workflow automation follows a pattern already established elsewhere in the AI tools landscape. OpenAI offers a similar feature in its Codex tool, which can also record workflows and replay them as reusable skills, demonstrating that this form of demonstration-based automation is becoming a competitive feature in AI applications. Anthropic's implementation, which combines visual recording with voice narration, suggests an emphasis on capturing both the mechanical steps and the user's spoken reasoning, potentially making the recorded skills more adaptable to variations in task execution.
