What happened
Meta acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup founded in 2024 that lets engineers deploy agents into parallel workspaces; CEO Charlie Holtz announced the deal Wednesday.
Why it matters
The acquisition gives Meta a product that lets software engineers run several AI agents on separate parts of a project at once, a capability Meta did not build in-house.
What to watch
Conductor's cloud service shuts down on November 20, after which the company will begin deleting user cloud data.
WHO IT HITSSoftware engineers who use Conductor's parallel-agent workspaces will need to move off its cloud service before the November 20 shutdown, while engineering teams at Meta gain the startup's agent-orchestration tooling.

Conductor was founded in 2024 and only launched its core product last summer, making it a relatively young startup at the time of the acquisition. Its platform is built around agentic teams that can be deployed in the cloud, locally, or via a user's phone, designed to let software engineers work on separate, compartmentalized parts of a project in concert. Notably, the agents it deploys are not developed in-house but come from major labs like Anthropic and OpenAI.
The deal fits into a broader push by Meta, which previously lagged behind in AI services and has spent the last several months trying to catch up. In August, the company launched Muse Code, its own coding agent, and its recently launched Muse agents have surpassed 10 million users, according to the company. Meta has also made a number of AI-related acquisitions over the past year, including Moltbook, the viral agent platform.
For Conductor's users, the transition comes with a concrete deadline: the cloud service shuts down on November 20, after which user cloud data will begin to be deleted. Holtz said core features would continue to work as they previously have until early next year. He also noted he was looking forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at the company's Superintelligence Labs.
