Nitto Kogyo, supported by IBM Japan, built a web app where generative AI extracts circuit info, equipment info, and special notes from uploaded building drawings, and started phased operational use in October.
Why it matters
The app separates AI reading and organizing from human review, and an environment for about 50 sales representatives at 23 nationwide sales bases is ready, likely reducing reliance on individual expertise.
WHO IT HITSSales representatives at Nitto Kogyo's 23 domestic sales bases who prepare distribution board quotations, and likely other firms with similar drawing-based estimation work, may see less dependence on individual expertise.

Distribution board quotation work requires reading regulations and product specifications from building drawings that vary by project, then working out the necessary equipment and circuit configuration. That made the process complex and dependent on the knowledge of specific individuals. To prepare for generative AI, Nitto Kogyo and IBM Japan organized quotation know-how, structured business knowledge, defined how people and AI divide roles, and set up an operating framework. The web app adopts the reference architecture of IBM Japan's "integrated AI foundation" and is designed to be independent of specific AI models or system environments, which the companies say allows it to respond to technical evolution and changes in business requirements. Alongside the app's development, they prepared an environment for about 50 sales representatives at 23 nationwide sales bases. The two companies are also studying company-wide AI governance, security, and architecture as they look to expand AI use.
