What happened
Since 2026-10-07, Max 5x, Max 20x and Team plans include monthly API credits — $100, $200 and up to $500 per seat — that do not work in interactive Claude Code, the writer says.
Why it matters
The credits reset monthly with no carryover and cover only API-based use, so subscribers on these plans cannot spend them from the tool most of them already pay for.

Claude's Max and Team plans began adding monthly API credits on 2026-10-07, according to the Platform release notes. The credits are tied to a Console organization that the subscriber links from claude.ai, a step that does not happen automatically. Once linked, the balance shows up in Console's Billing page as Promotional credits with an amount and an expiry.
The writer's own path to this was a hackathon deadline: on the night of 2026-10-11 Claude Code hit its weekly limit, and switching to a Console account produced a low-balance error instead. From 2026-10-12 the writer moved to OpenCode v2.0.27 using an API key, and confirmed in Console's Billing that OpenCode usage was drawing down the Promotional credits. Because third-party client consumption is not covered in the official documentation, the writer suggests checking your own environment once.
The second half of the piece maps out moving Claude Code configuration — CLAUDE.md, subagents, skills, MCP servers and hooks — over to OpenCode V2. The writer notes that V2 reads only AGENTS.md and does not fall back to CLAUDE.md, that agent frontmatter differs between the two tools, and that some hooks have no direct equivalent and are split between permissions and plugins. Several items, including hooks that ran on edit or at exit, could not be carried over as-is.
