Devin adds hosted macOS so agents build Apple apps without a Mac

Cognition has been building out its coding AI agent Devin as something that runs in the cloud rather than on the user's own machine. The hosted virtual environment already covered Ubuntu Linux and Windows, so adding macOS extends the same model to work that previously required Apple hardware on the desk. That prior coverage is the backdrop for this change, not a separate announcement.

What is notable is how far the demo goes. In the capture from Cognition AI's demo video, Devin is told to "Build Flappy BIrd with an Otter", a macOS virtual environment appears on the right side of the screen, an iOS simulator launches once code is generated, and Devin then finishes development, shows a recording of the test play, and carries the app through to a TestFlight beta release. The Cognition post frames the same scope: building and testing apps on its own Mac VM with an iOS simulator, sending a screen recording via Slack, and sending a TestFlight link.

The practical question is availability rather than capability. The article does not state whether the macOS option carries a separate price or how broadly it is offered, so how much this lowers the barrier for Mac-targeted development is likely to depend on those terms. For developers without Apple hardware, it is an option to weigh against buying a Mac; for teams, it is another hosted environment to fit into their tooling and review process.
