The raise comes as Nous Research, founded in 2023 by CEO Dilon Lornick, has argued that AI technology is concentrating in a handful of large companies. Lornick has said the principle that the people using AI systems should be able to manage them has not changed since Hermes's first release, and that the company intends to keep its open-source approach even for the business service. The planned "Hermes for Businesses" is designed to address issues that arise when companies adopt AI agents, such as protecting confidential work information and managing how AI is used. The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Nous Research's annualized revenue was about $36 million as of mid-September 2026, while management expects it to exceed $100 million by the end of 2026; the company declined to comment on its current annualized revenue. Alongside the business service, Nous Research has said it plans to develop a mobile app for the agent, extending features for individual users.
