Meta's Muse tops ChatGPT's first 12 days

The comparison between Muse and ChatGPT has been difficult to make cleanly because the two apps launched on different platforms and in different markets, as the body explains. ChatGPT arrived globally but only on iOS, while Muse is on both Apple's App Store and Google Play but only in the U.S. and Canada. Apptopia tried to correct for this by narrowing the comparison to iOS in the U.S. and Canada for both apps during their first 12 days.

The body highlights Meta's cross-promotion playbook as the likely engine behind Muse's early numbers. The company already used that strategy for Threads, which now has 500+ million users, and Muse can connect with Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Apptopia noted that over 95% of Muse's users are also Facebook users and 63% are Instagram users, though the firm doesn't have visibility into Meta's actual promotion or ad efforts.

What happens next likely hinges on whether Muse's early momentum carries beyond the launch window and whether Meta eventually shares its own figures. For rival AI app makers, a strong Muse would raise the bar for what a well-distributed AI assistant can achieve on mobile in its first days.
