Micron Technology plans ¥1 trillion 5 billion investment in Hiroshima through fiscal 2029; prefecture becomes hub for semiconductor manufacturing and equipment makers.

Micron Technology's production subsidiary Micron Memory Japan (Higashi-Hiroshima City) will receive a total of ¥1 trillion 5000 billion in investment by fiscal 2029. The Japanese government decided in 2025 to provide up to ¥536 billion in support to Micron.

Hiroshima prefecture is investing approximately ¥3 billion to construct water supply infrastructure from the Ōta River by fiscal 2027, because semiconductor manufacturing requires large quantities of high-quality water across multiple washing processes and current supply capacity cannot cover increased production.

The prefecture hosts semiconductor equipment makers including ASML (extreme ultraviolet lithography tools), Applied Materials (world #2), Tokyo Electron (Japan's #1), Disco (with a polishing-equipment factory in nearby Kure), and others. Disco plans to open a precision-processing-tool factory in 2028, and Lorze plans to complete a new headquarters in 2029.
