The Motley Fool's AIball AGI Score puts Meta ahead of Alphabet, because roughly 98% of Meta's 2025 revenue came from ads aimed at people who use its apps themselves.
Why it matters
Advertisers pay Alphabet to reach people searching for something, which an AI agent can answer and act on without viewing search results or their ads; Meta's audience opens its apps to see friends and pass the time, a task people keep for themselves.

The comparison turns on a simple difference in advertiser intent. Alphabet sells ads to businesses trying to reach people who are searching for something, while Meta sells ads to businesses trying to reach people who are scrolling Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp to see what friends are up to. An AI agent asked to book a dinner table can complete the task without ever looking at a page of search results or the ads on it. Nobody hands off the activity of keeping up with friends, so Meta's ads keep reaching real people.
Alphabet's counterweight is its AI Chokepoint position. Power and memory supplies are staying tight, and both companies are building massive data centers and custom chips. Alphabet comes out slightly ahead because outside customers rent its Tensor Processing Units and the software that runs them, and nine of the top 10 AI labs use Google Cloud. In the second quarter of 2026 it began shipping TPU systems straight into customers' facilities and teamed up with Blackstone on a cloud venture built on TPUs. Moving AI work to other chips requires retuning software first, a switching cost that makes customers sticky and gives Alphabet's chip business a moat.
The verdict rests on how each company balances AI upside against AI exposure. A case for Alphabet would rest on that Chokepoint score: if outside developers cannot get enough rival chips and power, its cloud gains could outweigh the pressure on search ads, a possibility rather than a certainty.
