Anthropic merges Claude chat and Cowork into one interface

Anthropic is consolidating its front end to reduce the confusion customers felt when deciding which tab to use for a given task. Instead of choosing among separate tabs or windows, users work in one place where Claude routes each request to the right part of the app, including chat, Cowork, and Artifacts, while Claude Design, introduced in April, works anywhere within Claude.

The update arrives after an upgrade of Cowork's memory layer, which helps Claude remember user context across chats. Along with the unified interface, Anthropic is adding dedicated features for making presentations and documents. Users can also download a generated presentation as a PDF or PowerPoint, share documents or slides with a link, edit them on a phone, and start a document on desktop and track its progress from the mobile app.

Access is being staged: the features roll out first to Pro and Max plans across web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks, with free and team tiers to follow later. How smoothly Anthropic's automatic routing handles real work will likely shape whether this single front end actually removes the tab-choosing problem it was meant to solve.
