KnowledgeSense announced that Kao adopted its ChatSense enterprise AI agent and deployed a "Research Data Assistant" across its entire research division to spread findings beyond labs and product categories.
Why it matters
The deployment aims to surface relevant knowledge even from vague questions and support follow-up dialogue, so researchers at one lab can find insights from elsewhere, per Kao's cited feedback.
WHO IT HITSResearch and development teams at large manufacturers may see faster access to past findings and cross-category insights, with internal knowledge search shifting from keyword queries toward conversational exploration.

Kao's adoption builds on a long-standing challenge in large research organizations: findings accumulated in research reports over many years can stay siloed within individual labs or product categories. According to Kao's research operations manager, the company had been working to create an environment that accelerates cross-lab and cross-category sharing of technical knowledge. The shift described is from conventional keyword search toward a "discovery" mechanism where even ambiguous questions yield related insights. ChatSense is positioned as the tool enabling that, with Kao citing employee feedback about reaching unexpected findings from other labs and quickly grasping past knowledge in a new field after a transfer. KnowledgeSense, for its part, says ChatSense is used by more than 500 major companies, including TSE Prime-listed firms and one of Japan's largest comprehensive universities, and offers features such as protecting chat content from AI training and sharing prompts internally. The company also notes that basic features are available from a free plan, with no initial cost and no minimum contract period.
