What happened
Check Point Research's September analysis found organizations worldwide averaged 2,803 attacks per week, up 48% year over year, while Japan hit 2,319 per week, a 107% increase.
Why it matters
The pace of attacks is a global and Japanese problem at once, and Check Point ties it to growing workplace use of generative AI, with sensitive-data leaks also rising.
WHO IT HITSCorporate security and IT teams in Japan and elsewhere face a weekly attack volume that roughly doubled year over year; businesses in business services, financial services, and healthcare also sit at the top of high-risk generative AI prompt rankings.

Check Point Research is the threat intelligence arm of Check Point Software Technologies, and it released this analysis of September's global threat data. The numbers show attacks rising almost everywhere at once, but not evenly. Latin America recorded the most weekly attacks per organization at 3,813, ahead of Africa at 3,701 and Asia-Pacific at 3,593. Europe did not lead on volume, but its 61% year-over-year growth outpaced every other region, suggesting the threat situation there is worsening faster than elsewhere.
The report also ties corporate use of generative AI to rising risk. High-risk prompts, which carry a high chance of leaking sensitive data, were found in 1 out of every 39 prompts entered in corporate settings. That share was highest in business services at 4.9%, then financial services at 4.1% and healthcare and medical at 3.5%. Latin America again came out highest regionally at 4%, above the global average of 2.5%.
Alongside the prompt findings, Check Point says phishing through email continues to rise, centered on malicious links, and that ransomware victims keep increasing, particularly in business services. The report frames tracking what employees share with AI tools, where that information is processed, and what controls apply as increasingly important as prompt volume and tool variety grow.
