Ukrainian drone strikes machine room at Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant; Rosatom says core equipment undamaged

A Ukrainian drone struck the machine room building of one of the power units at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant on Saturday afternoon, according to Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, who reported unspecified damage. Ukraine's southern military command denied conducting any strikes.

Rosatom stated that core equipment was not damaged in the strike. Ukraine's military command emphasized it 'act exclusively within the framework of international humanitarian law and are aware of the consequences of any actions against nuclear facilities.'

Ukraine's southern military command said Russia has 'illegally kept the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant under military control since March 2022, turning a civilian nuclear facility into an element of military infrastructure.'
