What happened
New Amazon SageMaker AI customers can now sign up with Amazon, Apple, GitHub, Google, or an email address and land in a configured SageMaker Studio in 2–3 steps, with $100 in AWS Free Tier credits and no credit card for most.
Why it matters
The old sign-up required email, phone, payment details, and a support plan, which AWS says was a significant barrier for individual developers and small startup teams; the new flow removes that hurdle.
WHO IT HITSIndividual developers and small startup teams who want to try Amazon SageMaker AI without setting up a full AWS account, entering a credit card, or configuring IAM roles manually are the main beneficiaries.

AWS frames the new sign-up as the final piece of a multi-step effort to shorten the path from discovering a model to deploying it. Earlier work included deep links from Hugging Face model pages directly into SageMaker Studio workflows, a reduction in Studio environment creation time from 2 minutes to about 20 seconds, and pre-configured model customization permissions in every new Studio domain. Those changes removed friction after a developer reached Studio, but the account-creation process itself still required email verification, contact information, phone verification, payment details, and a support plan.
The launch ties the simplified sign-up to the new Studio environment, which inherits earlier improvements: permissions for model customization, training, evaluation, and deployment are pre-configured so users do not need to create AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles, and eligible accounts get default access to G5, G6, and G4dn GPU instances for endpoints, training jobs, and Studio notebooks. The instance selection menu also shows quota availability.
The Free Tier structure is designed to avoid surprise charges: credits are applied automatically, users receive an email notification as they approach their limit, and usage stops automatically when the period ends. AWS says startup teams can now go from finding a model on Hugging Face to customizing or deploying it in minutes using an identity they already have.
