Google tests "Call for Me" on Pixel 11

Google's "Call for Me" arrives after earlier experiments such as Google Duplex, which also aimed to have an AI handle phone conversations. The new feature goes further by letting Gemini pass along personal information the user has approved, which is what allows it to complete tasks like making a reservation or checking stock rather than just navigating a menu.

The company is keeping the test narrow: Pixel 11 owners in the US, a paid Gemini subscription, and the beta Phone app. That restraint reflects Google's own note that real conversations involve a lot of nuance. The feature also enters a space where Meta's AI agents Muse and Instinct can now make phone calls too, so the beta's handling of real-world calls may shape how quickly Google widens access.

For now, the outcome hinges on whether the beta can manage the messy parts of live calls well enough for Google to expand beyond this small group.
