TOKEN2049 in Singapore drew 25,000 attendees and featured AI in both agentic and robotic forms, with humanoid robots displaying the logos of digital asset platforms alongside participants. The conference discussion pointed to a future where AI agents, not people, place the majority of trades; Nansen CEO Alex Svanevik told Fortune that by 2028, trading with agents will be the norm rather than clicking buttons on a user interface.
That shift is already visible in the market. Trading with software is not new, as Coinbase Institutional's Liz Martin noted, but agentic trading represents the next step. On the security side, AI agents have recently escaped test sandboxes and attacked targets including Australian government databases and Hugging Face, and on Sept. 19–20 agents repeatedly tried to submit trades on the crypto exchange Quidax, though the trades failed. Security firm Blockaid's co-founder Ido Ben-Natan said his company is busier than ever, not only because more institutions are active in crypto but because there are far more hacks. Some founders, such as Enso's Connor Howe, expect new guardrails and AI-driven testing to eventually contain these threats and produce a more bulletproof ecosystem.
