SkyDrive and Osaka Metro Launch Japan's First Commercial eVTOL Vertiport Consortium

SkyDrive, the Toyota-based eVTOL maker, announced a consortium partnership on May 8, 2026 with Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, Osaka Metro, Soracle, and Marubeni Corporation to commercialize Osakako Vertiport, a dedicated takeoff and landing site on Osaka Bay's shoreline.

The consortium will organize commercial eVTOL operations at the vertiport and study integration with existing infrastructure, including 146 emergency helicopter landing pads throughout Osaka, as part of the Osaka Diamond Routes network linking key districts across the city.

SkyDrive demonstrated its SD-05 aircraft at the 2025 Osaka Expo and has since used Osakako Vertiport as a legacy site for exhibitions, mockup boarding sessions, and public awareness activities alongside Osaka Metro.
