Anthropic bans AI tools during job interviews to assess how candidates think critically

Anthropic's hiring process includes up to five rounds of interviews and tests, with a "culture interview" that asks candidates about their values, worldview, and ethical dilemmas. The culture interview is reportedly more intense than at other companies, and failing it essentially eliminates a candidate's chances of getting the job.

Salaries at Anthropic reach up to $850,000, plus equity compensation. Some applicants spend an average of $4,600 on prep coaching run anonymously by current OpenAI and Anthropic employees.

Both OpenAI and Anthropic are currently creating dozens of multimillionaires, which is triggering anxiety among developers who aren't cashing in, even those with solid salaries.
