Google is rolling out Universal Cart in the US across the Gemini app and Google Search, letting shoppers save items from multiple retailers in one cart.
Why it matters
Shoppers can keep one list instead of checking each store, and get alerts when prices drop or items restock.
WHO IT HITSUS online shoppers using the Gemini app or Google Search AI Mode get a single place to track items from different stores, with alerts on price drops and restocks. People who pay from the cart may also lean on card-perk comparisons, though that part depends on using Google Wallet.

Google first previewed Universal Cart at its I/O event in May, and the tool is now arriving in the US just ahead of Black Friday and the holiday shopping season. Rather than tying shoppers to a single store, it pulls saved products from multiple retailers into one unified space that works across the Gemini app and Google Search AI Mode, with Gmail and YouTube planned as future additions.
The feature goes beyond storage. Google says it will push notifications about price drops and restocks, so shoppers do not have to revisit each retailer's site, and it can surface promotional codes alongside saved items. Checkout runs through Google Wallet, or items can be handed off to the merchant's own cart, and Google says Wallet can also weigh the perks on saved credit cards to help pick a payment method.
The timing reflects a broader contest over AI-assisted shopping. OpenAI and Meta have launched agentic AI assistants that shop on a user's behalf, and Shopify recently said it would open its platform so more AI agents can browse and buy from its listings. Google's bet, like its rivals', is that more of the online buying process will be handed to software.
