70.1% of AI-search citations for training firms go to their own sites: Uravation

3 Key Points

  1. What happened

Uravation put 20 buyer-style questions to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude three times each and tallied 2,465 cited sources. Training and AI-support company sites took 70.1%, comparison media 17.1%, press-release and news reposts 6.5%.

  2. Why it matters

In this sector, AI search reads company pages more than comparison sites. Being cited appears to depend more on whether pricing, audience, format and track record are laid out plainly on a firm's own pages.

Context & Analysis

Uravation has been tracking its own site's AI-search citation rate since September 2026, and says the question it hears most from clients is whether AI reads comparison sites or company sites in their industry. This first report answers that for its own sector, corporate training, by classifying cited domains into seven types, with the top 201 domains (about 90% of citations) checked one by one by page title.

The results split by engine and by question style. ChatGPT and Claude leaned heavily on company sites, while Perplexity drew noticeably more on comparison media and press-release reposts. On the question side, generic prompts like "which companies do you recommend" produced a fixed roster dominated by Perplexity, and Uravation itself appeared in 12 of 60 such answers, all from Perplexity; naming a tool, adding conditions, or framing an internal-approval question raised its appearance rate to 26.7%, 33.9% and 43.3% respectively.

Uravation's own site was cited in 74 of 239 valid answers, the most of any of the 382 domains, though the company labels this a reference figure because the question set includes specific terms its pages already target. It says the next round will add anonymized client results by industry and Google AI Overview, and it cautions that the figures reflect a single measurement date and do not guarantee citations or traffic.
