At a Google Cloud event, Google launched a unified Gemini agent that can plan work and execute tasks across business apps. Early testers included On, Shopify, and PayPal.
Why it matters
The agent gets its own Workspace account, email address, and audit trail, so businesses may treat it like a coworker rather than a chatbot.
WHO IT HITSEnterprise IT and operations teams running Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 environments will need to plan for an agent that connects to Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, and Snowflake. Security and compliance staff may also need to adapt to an AI with its own email address and audit trail.

Google's decision to bring agentic AI to businesses first, before consumers, is tied to its existing corporate footprint. Sundar Pichai said nearly 90% of Fortune 100 businesses already use Gemini Enterprise, and he said the business-first path lets Google solve "harder problems around security, scale, and performance." The agent connects to a long list of workplace systems, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, and Snowflake, and can work with any Model Context Protocol (MCP) server inside or outside the company's network. Google also said new flexible spending options, including multi-model orchestration, smart routing, and real-time spend caps, will help businesses keep enterprise AI costs under better control. The launch follows the rise of consumer-facing agents like Meta's Muse, messaging agents like Instinct, and ChatGPT's Dots, as AI tools move beyond conversation toward taking ownership of tasks.
