Claude Sonnet 5.5 lands on Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform

AWS is presenting Sonnet 5.5 not as a replacement for a larger model but as a second gear alongside one. In its framing, Sonnet 5.5 takes work where the approach is already clear and what is left is to execute it quickly, with lower cost per task for most work at faster speed. The improvements are said to stand out on well-scoped work: whether a developer assigns a feature or a bug fix, the model completes the work and checks the result against the stated requirements, and it produces more polished documents and visuals than Sonnet 5, including one-pagers, architecture diagrams, and summary slides.

The availability details matter as much as the model itself. AWS says Sonnet 5.5 sits inside the AWS controls teams already use — IAM for access, CloudTrail for audit, CloudWatch for monitoring, and Amazon Bedrock Guardrails — with Regional data residency and usage on the AWS bill. That framing is aimed less at raw capability than at procurement and compliance: the model arrives where the rest of a team's cloud governance already lives.

What the launch hinges on is whether the claimed efficiency holds up across the workloads AWS names — first response to alerts, always-on monitoring of agents, SQL generation, UI and UX testing, and fast coding agents in the IDE with a fixed spend cap, plus scoped analysis and routine document tasks across the enterprise.
